In a festive surprise, a trailer has finally arrived, though it's hampered by YouTube's poor compression—maybe illustrating the director's choice to restrict the trailer solely for theatrical audiences.
A First Glimpse of the Stellar Ensemble
The debut footage showcases Matt Damon in the role of the king of Ithaca. We also see Tom Holland playing the son and Anne Hathaway as Penelope. In a poignant moment, the character pleads with her husband to vow he will return, only for him to respond by asking what occurs should he fail. The trailer also offers a brief, shadowy glimpse of the mythical one-eyed giant, whose flock are taken by the hero and his men on their treacherous voyage.
Adapted from a cornerstone in classic storytelling, The Odyssey chronicles the lengthy quest of the legendary King of Ithaca. After his triumph at Troy, which is depicted in Homer's Iliad, the king faces an extended and hazardous return to his homeland.
Legendary Obstacles with an All-Star Cast
Along his path, Odysseus confronts countless challenges and legendary creatures. This roster features the witch-goddess Circe, known for turning humans into pigs, as well as the treacherous Sirens. Despite these trials, Odysseus vows to do whatever it takes to reunite with Penelope and Telemachus in Ithaca.
The adaptation's cast is remarkably star-studded. Alongside the leading trio are Charlize Theron portraying the shrewd goddess, together with Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, Elliot Page, and Jon Bernthal.
A Tale of Many Adaptations
Homer's epic has inspired numerous adaptations over the years. These range from contemporary versions to a 1999 ballet. It has even been a stage musical adaptation titled Epic: The Musical, presented as a multi-part album series.
