The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Share Frustration Over Sizing Changes
Members of the platform have expressed outrage following a change that caused listings displaying inaccurate size information.
The second-hand shopping app has updated its measurement guidelines for female and kids' apparel but did not contact all users about the change.
Online Platforms Reaction
Many shoppers and sellers have taken to social media claiming that product pages now present a modified sizing category than originally posted because of the remapping.
Vinted explained the updated approach better aligns with similar services.
It has advised users to review their products and adjust the sizing manually if necessary, causing user dissatisfaction.
Measurement Approach Changes
Previously, the measurements included numerical and alphabetical indicators, such as S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features an alphabetical indicator and numerical range such as S/UK 8-10.
With some products, the sizing has been recategorised - like an L measurement was formerly size 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
Member Experiences
Frankie Bridger, who produces content about larger sizing, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.
Stephanie Gallen, based in Glasgow, stated items she posted featuring size 14 markings were displaying on the service as larger sizing 20-22.
"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they may become frustrated," she stated.
Manual Updates
Another shopper, located in England, stated she felt frustrated by the change as she had to manually change the sizing for "all her products".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, as I'm chronically ill and Vinted sales have been crucial after experiencing income reduction," she explained.
Service Background
The platform boasts over 100 million shoppers, including 18 million in the UK.
It has proved a popular alternative compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance where an unanticipated change within the service has received backlash: earlier, the platform withdrew an update regarding delivery choices following member complaints.
